Social Safety Net System Project
The poorest populations are the most vulnerable to shocks. This reality is particularly noticeable in Somalia, South Sudan, Eritrea which remain some of the poorest countries in the world. Especially in the rural areas where households depend largely on rain-fed agriculture & livestock, poverty rates are the highest in these countries which makes these rural populations particularly vulnerable. Hopechild works to optimize & coordinate social safety nets for these populations by supporting the deployment of the Social Registry & the social safety nets programs & strengthening efforts to increase the effectiveness & efficiency of the national social protection systems to reach households suffering from food insecurity during the lean season with support going the poorest households through cash transfers & social promotion sessions to enable households to cope with shocks that affect their well-being, in particular droughts. The initiative is to reach 50,000 households in extreme poverty by the end of 2023 & 200,000 households by 2026.
Our Impact
Reinforcing the access to essential services in the border zones Project
The starting point for the project is to promote human security and community resilience as a means to prevent and to manage, in the long-term, conflict and tensions between and within communities. Ultimately, this approach intends to reinforce cohesion, coexistence and social peace at a community level.
Components:
- Strengthening the production capacities of the women who grow and sell Shea Butter and Gum Arabic. Support provided for the construction of community infrastructure (water points, food storage store for women’s associations) and as well for institutional capacity building
- Democratic institutions strengthening with a view to the full exercise of their functions and the promotion of citizen participation and control
- Regional Integrated Border Management Committees set up and their capacities strengthening
- Training workshops on financial education for members of water users’ associations, women producers, management committees of multifunctional platforms and small drinking water supply systems.
Our Impact
Support project for Displaced people
The objective of the project is to improve access to basic services and economic opportunities for refugees and host communities in selected areas in the affected countries. The project’s interventions support the income improvement of crisis-affected communities, with the aim of enabling them to become self-sufficient and of stabilising the targeted areas. It benefits the whole community through the creation of infrastructures which improve access to basic services, and income-generating activities – agricultural and non-agricultural – in order to increase the socio-economic opportunities of the beneficiary refugees and their host communities.
