Social Safety Net System Project

The poorest populations are the most vulnerable to shocks. This reality is particularly noticeable in Somalia, South Sudan, Eritrea which remain some of the poorest countries in the world. Especially in the rural areas where households depend largely on rain-fed agriculture & livestock, poverty rates are the highest in these countries which makes these rural populations particularly vulnerable. Hopechild works to optimize & coordinate social safety nets for these populations by supporting the deployment of the Social Registry & the social safety nets programs & strengthening efforts to increase the effectiveness & efficiency of the national social protection systems to reach households suffering from food insecurity during the lean season with support going the poorest households through cash transfers & social promotion sessions to enable households to cope with shocks that affect their well-being, in particular droughts. The initiative is to reach 50,000 households in extreme poverty by the end of 2023 & 200,000 households by 2026.
